Our curriculum

What is the Edistää curriculum based on?

The curriculum at Edistää is grounded in current research and developments in early childhood education – in particular the work of the Infant and Toddler Centres of Reggio Emilia, the International Baccalaureate, and the STEM Centre of Excellence, Georgia University (Atlanta).

It focuses on six areas of learning and uses the early learning goals of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), UK, to set broad, developmentally appropriate goals for each learning area and age group.

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.” – Mark van Doren

Learning environment

What does a Reggio-inspired classroom look like?

We believe the environment has the potential to inspire children. Our classrooms are filled with natural light, order and beauty – every material is chosen for its purpose, and every corner keeps evolving to encourage children to delve deeper into their interests.

Children are encouraged to use language and all their senses to investigate, explore and reflect on their experiences, and to understand the importance of nature. We carefully display and document children’s thoughts and progress through photographs, transcripts of their ideas and visual representations.

Play is an integral part of our approach. When children play, learning is joyous, wholesome and connected to everyday life – they learn relationship skills, problem-solving and risk assessment.

“The learning environment must reflect a classroom and outdoor space that inspires a sense of wanting to investigate, to find out and to explore.” – Kathy Walker
